Throwing an unforgettable first birthday party

First birthdays only roll around once. Well, so do all the other milestones, but this one is extra special and deserves all the fuss and love that comes with preparing for this exciting moment. There are always so many things to gear up for – from themes to food preferences, activities, and decorations; but we think that’s half the fun. So, if you’re preparing to throw a first birthday party for your little one, how do you lock down the perfect theme when they’re unable to throw their two cents in just yet?

We’ve got you covered in our latest article, so grab a cup of tea and a pen and let’s jump into it.

The priorities for any 1st birthday party

Do what your family values most

Like all events, there are a few things to keep in mind when you’re tying up all the loose ends of the day. Remember that it’s all up to you on how much you want to spend or do on the day, and there are absolutely no rules – this is your family’s journey, and not anyone else's!

So with that in mind, if you’ve always envisioned a glamorous do-up for your little one, then jump right into the fun and antics of preparation. Alternatively, if a small, quiet brunch is more on the cards for your family, then that’s just as exciting. The choice is yours.

Keep it simple

Use the K.I.S.S mentality for throwing a first birthday party. While the aim is for your kids to have fun, the aim is also for you to enjoy it, too. Don’t overwhelm yourself with budgets that stress you out or finer details that don’t sit well with what you had in mind. Go with the flow and create an occasion that’s in line with joy, laughter and the ability to just sit back and enjoy the overall day.

Decorations don’t have to be OTT

You don’t have to go all out on decorations if you don’t want to. The atmosphere is yours to set, so go with your gut (and budget). Even a simple, vibrant banner can dramatically shift the space and set up the vibe for the day – it doesn’t have to have all the bells and whistles.

An easy way to also incorporate a theme is to include costumes. For example, attendees could dress up as their favourite animal, with your little birthday girl or boy sporting one of our many baby costumes! Easy, comfortable and still playing the part of an exciting theme for the day (without the fuss).
